The difference between Physicial and Emotional Hunger

Filed under: General Hypnotherapy, Weight Loss — Tags: , , , , , , — Howard the Hypnotherapist @ 12:21 am

Have you ever wondered the difference between the two? If you are looking to lose weight or shed those extra pounds then this will be helpful. if you have constant cravings then this is a must read.

According to US research, there are five main differences between emotional and physical hunger:

1). Emotional hunger is a sudden feeling whereas physical hunger comes on gradually.

2). Physical hunger is felt in the stomach – emotional hunger is felt in the head e.g. a sudden craving for a particular type of food like chocolate or something sweet or sugar dense etc.

3). When you feel desperate to eat a particular type of food, it is an emotional need. If you are really hungry, then you are open to a wider choice of food options.

4). Emotional hunger wants to be satisfied immediately whereas physical hunger can wait.

5). Emotional hunger leaves you feeling guilty – physical hunger leaves you pleasantly full

Does this ring any bells for you?

Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Studies

Filed under: General Hypnotherapy, Weight Loss — Tags: , , , , , , , — Howard the Hypnotherapist @ 12:00 am

Here’s some interesting studies that have been carried out on the success of Hypnotherapy as appossed to normal weight loss systems diets etc.

they are from the USA and if anyone has any more recent independant research from teh US or UK i would be gretful if you could let me know.

One of the things that you will ntice is the dates in the research and i am glad to say that things have improved dramatically in terms of process, tools and success rates.

Bolocofsky, David N.; Spinler, Dwayne; Coulthard-Morris, Linda (1985).

Effectiveness of hypnosis as an adjunct to behavioral weight management.

Journal of Clinical Psychology, 41 (1), 35-41

109 17-67 year olds completed a behavioral treatment for weight management either with or without the addition of hypnosis. Results show that, at the end of the 9-week program, both interventions resulted in significant weight reduction. However, at 8-month and 2-year follow-ups, the hypnosis subjects showed significant additional weight loss, while those in the behavioral-treatment-only group exhibited little further change. More subjects who used hypnosis also achieved and maintained their personal weight goals.

Cochrane, Gordon; Friesen, J., (1986) Hypnotherapy in weight loss treatment

Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. Volume: 54 489-492

Investigated the effects of hypnosis in weight loss for 60 females, at least 20% overweight and not involved in other treatment….hypnosis was more effective than a control group (17 vs. .5 pounds on follow-up).

Kirsch, Irving (1996).

Hypnotic enhancement of cognitive-behavioral weight loss treatments–Another meta-reanalysis.

Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 64 (3), 517-519.

Averaged across post treatment and follow-up assessment periods, the mean weight loss was 6.00 lbs. (2.72 kg) without hypnosis and 11.83 lbs. (5.37 kg) with hypnosis….At the last assessment period, the mean weight loss was 6.03 lbs. (2.74 kg) without hypnosis and 14.88 lbs. (6.75 kg) with hypnosis… Correlational analyses indicated that the benefits of hypnosis increased substantially over time

Should you have any comments of questions please feel free to let me know.

Thanks and keep well

More Definition of Hypnosis

Filed under: General Hypnotherapy, Uncategorized — Tags: , , , , , , — Howard the Hypnotherapist @ 12:45 am

Hypnosis is a state of inner absorption, concentration and focused attention. It is like using a magnifying glass to focus the rays of the sun and make them more powerful. Similarly, when our minds are concentrated and focused, we are able to use our minds more powerfully.
Everyone has experienced a trance many times, but we don’t usually call it hypnosis. All of us have been so absorbed in thought –while reading a book, watching TV or riding the bus or driving to work– that we fail to notice what is happening around us. While we were not fully concentrating, another level of consciousness, which we refer to as our unconscious mind, takes over. These are highly focused states of attention similar to hypnosis.
Clinical hypnotherapists do essentially three things with hypnosis. They encourage the use of imagination. Mental imagery is very powerful, especially in a focused state of attention. The mind seems capable of using imagery, even if it is only symbolic, to assist us in bringing about the things we are imagining.
Another basic hypnotic method is to present ideas or suggestions to the patient. In a state of concentrated attention, ideas and suggestions that are compatible with what the patient wants seem to have a more powerful impact on the mind.

What Happens to Your body if you stop smoking right now?

Filed under: General Hypnotherapy, Stop Smoking — Tags: , , , , , , , — Howard the Hypnotherapist @ 8:32 am

I think one of the main reasons people think it is so hard to quit smoking or stop smoking  is because all the benefits of quitting and all the dangers of continuing seem very far away.

Well, here’s a little timeline about some of the more immediate effects of quitting smoking and how that will affect your body RIGHT NOW.

* In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.
* In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.
* In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.
* In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
* In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
* In three to nine months coughs, wheezing
and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.
* In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
* In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
* In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
* In 15 years your risk of heart attack
will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

I am sure you will have seen something like this before personally i think that the real benfits are obtained quicker and there are hundreds more benfits you will obtain.

As a smoker it is important to find out how to do this the easy way in all my years the easiset way i have found is hypnosis carried out by a professional hypnotherapist.

Keep well and feel free to comment on this or anything else you have on your mind.

“Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking”…

…according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little” – New Scientist, October 1992

In 1992 a meta-analysis by Frank Schmidt and Chockalingam Viswesvaran reviewed 48 studies, covering 6020 subjects. They found that the average quit rate for those using hypnosis was 30%.

Numerous studies have shown that the success for stopping smoking using hypnotherapy is much higher than nicotine replacement products. In 1968 Von Dedenroth reported in the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis a stop smoking success rate of 94% over an 18-month period.

It is considered that the success rate will depend on the techniques used by the hypnotherapist (and these will vary from hypnotherapist to hypnotherapist, as there is no standardized procedure but you need to look for a hypnotherapist who has been practising for a long time. i have found that price is a good indicator or quality in this area.) and the desire for the smoker to stop smoking. make sure they have a system in place and beware of the turn up and we will take things from there hypnotist working from a converted garage or spare bedroom.

Hypnosis works to help you break the habit of smoking. It can also help you become more calm, so that there are little or no “withdrawal” symptoms on stopping smoking. Many non-smokers report how easy it is to stop smoking using hypnosis.

Hollywood celebrities Ben Affleck, Samuel Jackson, Ellen Degeneres, Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore have all used hypnosis to stop smoking.  So how about you are you ready to stop smoking controlling your life?

We are based in Buckinghamshire in Milton Keynes where we have professional offices and great staff to look after you whatever the issue.  Find out more about stopping smoking in Milton Keynes the easy way with advanced hypnosis.

Obsessions Compulsions Disorders

Filed under: General Hypnotherapy, Panic Attacks, Phobia's, Uncategorized — Tags: , , , , — Howard the Hypnotherapist @ 9:31 am

Obsessions Compulsions Disorders

OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is an anxiety related problem and sufferers will typically experience their condition worsens at times of stress, uncertainty or upset. Advanced Hypnotherapy and NLP has proven to be an extremely effective form
of treatment to help you can take control of your life and your future.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

A person with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) experiences repetitive, intrusive and unwelcome thoughts, images, impulses actions and doubts which will typically get worse with time if left untreated. The OCD sufferer broods over the task (or thought) and the person becomes preoccupied and their mind is dominated by these thoughts. Sufferers will probably know that the behaviours are irrational but will not have the strategies to effectively deal with them.

Obsessional behaviour can include:-
• Checking things repeatedly e.g. locks, windows, doors
• Counting rituals e.g. checking your car door handle 5 times to make sure it’s locked
• A fear of contamination by dirt or germs
• Obsessive washing sometimes to the point or rawness
• Constant negative thoughts
• Obsessive worry or jealousy about your partner
• Having negative voices battle with positive ones
• Sexual obsessions or unwanted sexual thoughts (compulsion to view porn etc.)

Compulsions

With a compulsion, the sufferer feels immediate benefit from carrying out their compulsion. The more stress and anxiety someone has in their life, the stronger and more frequent their compulsions will become, resulting in their “escape” from the negative situation becoming shorter. This often results in feelings of guilt.

Compulsive behaviour can include:-
• Excessive drinking s
• Smoking
• Nail biting or pen chewing
• Comfort eating / over eating
• Gambling in bookies, internet or casino’s
• Drug addictions
• Self harming
• Spending in stores, internet or shopping channels etc

In my experience every person has their own unique way of coping with life. Some people develop disorders and compulsions to do so but these become a problem over time.

I will Stop Smoking when…..

Filed under: General Hypnotherapy, Stop Smoking — Tags: , , , , — Howard the Hypnotherapist @ 2:07 pm

Here’s the thing I like about smokers they can be the most optimistic people around. That I like but I prefer people who are realistic about that optimism.

Of course you want to stop smoking and I know this to be true of every smoker. The reasons are complicated but I can know this from 2 questions which I have asked hundreds of smokers over the years and have always and I mean always got the same response.

You want to quit smoking once and for all but just before you do here’s a list of statements you will have said or will say into the future.

So you have decided that you do want to stop smoking but not until after….

  • That wedding
  • The Stag/Hen night
  • The Holiday
  • The World Cup
  • Christmas
  • The New Year
  • The funeral
  • The exams
  • The interview
  • I have moved house
  • Summer
  • Winter
  • Spring
  • Autumn
  • When I’m 20,21, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65,
  • When the kids behave themselves
  • When my sisters husband gets his act together
  • When my friend/partner/relation/daughter  does it with me
  • When I have/don’t have the money
  • Fill out your reason’s here ______________

So you see there will always be a excuse for not stopping smoking, or there will be a better time to quit smoking. Yet, there will always be up and coming events in our life. As soon as one is over there will be another and another and another. If you always wait for the next one to be over with before you stop smoking, you will always be waiting to stop. In the early days I used to follow enquires up and I quickly realised that some people love talking about stopping smoking but never get round to it.
I sometimes joke that everyone does stop smoking eventually the wise ones get to have a life before they have to leave this world.

You know that you can’t keep putting it off. If you need extra help or support to stop smoking then seek that help out. Whatever you do don’t wait because statically smoking really is not good news for you or the people around you, but you know that anyway.

If you would like to have a chat about just how easy stopping smoking can be then please feel free to call us on 0800 0 19 13 66. We have been stopping people smoking in and around Milton Keynes for the past 8 years and work from professional offices in Central Milton Keynes.

I would like you to be optimistic for the best of reasons and without that dread that lurks behind many many smokers that maybe this next cigarette will be the one that tips me over the edge.
If you would like the help of an experienced stop smoking hypnotherapist which is a great way of stopping smoking then just contact us to find out if this is going to be right for you.
