| TREVOR: | Please welcome into the studio Howard D’Silva, good morning Howard D’Silva. |
| HOWARD: | Good morning. |
| ROS: | Look into my eyes, look into my eyes… |
| TREVOR: | Howard D’Silva – from Ros’ description as you can quite plainly tell – is a hypnotherapist and you work for Three Counties Advanced Hypnotherapy Centres. Welcome into the studio this morning. |
| HOWARD: | Thanks very much. |
| TREVOR: | Thanks for coming in. Now, at this time of year, everybody is talking about a couple of things: losing weight, going down the gym and stopping smoking – two big resolutions. |
| ROS: | Surely got to be the number one. |
| TREVOR: | Yes, it must be a busy time of year for you. |
| HOWARD: | OK, we can help them with both, but stopping smoking is our main thing. |
| TREVOR: | That’s right. So OK, first of all then – how and why does it work? |
| HOWARD: | Well, the system that we’ve developed has been developed over ten years. We’ve now got it to a level where over 95% of the people that we see stop smoking in the first session and never ever start smoking again. |
| TREVOR: | Now we’ve done this kind of thing in the past on this show, and it has worked. |
| HOWARD: | Yes. |
| TREVOR: | People come in, and listeners have won hypnotherapy sessions and they’ve gone along, and they’ve stopped smoking. |
| HOWARD: | Yes. And it’s excellent, because it’s really about just breaking those connections between smoking, and it being a good thing and smoking and just realising “why would I want to do it?” Because it just doesn’t do you any good. |
| TREVOR: | Now, I’m sceptical about hypnotherapy, as a lot of people, I gather, are. |
| HOWARD: | Most people are. |
| TREVOR: | And so, does it really, really work? Does it honestly really work? |
| HOWARD: | One of the things I’ve done is I’ve brought a testimonial file of all the clients, where we get loads of feedback. |
| ROS: | Which I’ve been flicking through, and there’s some great comments here. It’s got “I’ve got my life back, and I’m looking forward to enjoying it”, “my time is my own” – a lot of those in there “my time is my own, I’m back in control”. So smoking obviously feels like it owns your life. |
| TREVOR: | Are you sure, when they’re under, you don’t go: “Now, we’re going to give you a testimonial form – you’re going to tick..!” |
| ROS: | Yes, all the writing’s a bit funny! |
| HOWARD: | I really wish I could get people to do what they don’t want to do, but I can’t – unfortunately! |
| ROS: | In fact, there’s not many that I’ve flicked through in here that mention anything about: “And I’ve got more money”. See, because obviously being a non-smoker and having always been a non-smoker, I just think “it’s so expensive!” But these people are all commenting about the fact that they’ve got their life back, they feel healthy, they’ve got more energy, they don’t smell so bad – nothing in here is about money. |
| HOWARD: | Yes, smoking’s not about money, because smokers will always find the money – you know – no matter how poor you are, you will always find the money. |
| CUEBALL: | And the times they hold you up while they go to the garage and get fags! |
| HOWARD: | Yes! The time element is just enormous, but really it’s about just giving up and stopping smoking for the right reasons. Because: you want to have your life back, you want to be in control, you want to enjoy your children, you want to enjoy your life, without having that guilt and that control that cigarettes and tobacco manufacturers have on you. |
| TREVOR: | Right. Hang on – we’ll talk more in a bit. We’re going to give somebody the chance to go to one of your hypnotherapy sessions. |
| HOWARD: | Excellent. |
| TREVOR: | And stop smoking. So if you want to stop smoking, and a lot of people do want to stop smoking, then you’ve got a chance to do it. We’re going to give you a chance to call. In fact, give us a call now: 01908 26 10 33, and we’ll put you in touch with Howard, and we’ll give you one of these sessions free! |
| ROS: | Yes, 95% success rate – which is pretty good going, I find. |
| TREVOR: | Yes. OK, it’s thirteen minutes past eight… |
|
|
|
| TREVOR: | Howard D’Silva is in with us this morning, from Three Counties Advanced Hypnotherapy Centres, and this time of the year everybody is saying it, or most people want to say: “I want to quit smoking, really want to quit smoking.” And Howard, we’ve chosen a listener that will have a free session with you. |
| HOWARD: | Fantastic. |
| TREVOR: | Justine – morning Justine. |
| JUSTINE: | Morning. |
| ROS: | Morning Justine. |
| TREVOR: | Morning, are you all right? |
| JUSTINE: | Yes, fine thank you. |
| ROS: | Just think – she’s outside having a fag! |
| JUSTINE: | Er, I’ve just put one out! |
| ROS: | Have you really? |
| TREVOR: | How bad a fagger are you, Justine? How much do you smoke? |
| JUSTINE: | Just under 20 a day. |
| TREVOR: | Right. Now Howard, do you just want to have a quick chat with Justine? How do you assess somebody? How do you find out if they really want to quit? |
| ROS: | What are you going to do to her?! |
| HOWARD: | OK – Justine – can I just ask you, just tell me the reasons why you want to stop smoking. |
| JUSTINE: | I hate the control it has over me. |
| HOWARD: | Yes. |
| JUSTINE: | I hate the smell, I hate the fact that I’m just so addicted to it. |
| HOWARD: | Yes. |
| JUSTINE: | And I’ve been smoking since I was seventeen and I’ve tried almost anything. |
| HOWARD: | OK. How’s it going to be to be a non-smoker? |
| JUSTINE: | A non-smoker? |
| HOWARD: | What’s it going to be like to be like to be a non-smoker? |
| JUSTINE: | Heaven! Absolute heaven! I know my family will be pleased for me. I know that people that have actually come to yourself and have got so much energy afterwards – it’s just a new lease of life. |
| HOWARD: | Great. And let me just ask you one other thing. |
| JUSTINE: | Yes. |
| HOWARD: | How quickly can you make this session? |
| JUSTINE: | Today? |
| ROS: | I like it, see – that’s enthusiasm isn’t it?! |
| HOWARD: | That is enthusiasm! |
| TREVOR: | OK Justine, so have you ever given up before? |
| JUSTINE: | For about three days. |
| TREVOR: | Right. And what happened after the three days? |
| JUSTINE: | I ended up smoking the patches I was on! |
| ROS: | Yes, well I suppose the craving just gets so bad if – how long have you been smoking, Justine? |
| JUSTINE: | Since I was seventeen, so, and I’m thirty-three now, so.. |
| ROS: | So a heck of a long time? |
| JUSTINE: | Yes – a long time. |
| TREVOR: | Well we wish you all the best of luck, and it’s a positive move that you’ve phoned us this morning and you’re going to have this session with Howard. |
| ROS: | Yes, you can be like our little guinea-pig – we’re going to follow you, but without cameras – we’re going to follow you on-air just to see how you’re progress is going. |
| JUSTINE: | Good. |
| TREVOR: | So, we’re going to get you back in the studio. |
| JUSTINE: | I can’t not stop then, can I? |
| ROS: | No, we’re right behind you! |
| TREVOR: | Exactly right, the pressure is on! |
| ROS: | We’re going to be ringing you in the middle of the night just to make sure! |
| HOWARD: | Justine, we’re going to show you how to make it really, really easy. |
| JUSTINE: | Go on then! |
| ROS: | What right now? |
| HOWARD: | I’ve got to see you first – I’m not that good! |
| JUSTINE: | Oh, all right then! |
| TREVOR: | All right, we’ll talk with you off-air, but we’ll get you in with Howard, and we’ll get you in the studio in a few weeks’ time and have a chat with you to see how you’re getting on. |
| JUSTINE: | Brilliant! Thank you so much. |
| ROS: | Justine, you’re going to be a non-smoker! |
| JUSTINE: | I hope so! I’m going to – I’m going to do it! |
| HOWARD: | Fantastic. |
| TREVOR: | Go for it! |
| JUSTINE: | Thank you. |
| TREVOR: | It’s good isn’t it? All right, OK, good luck, it’s really good news that, and she’s made the first call. We’re going to talk more after half past eight… |
|
|
|
| TREVOR: | We have the pleasure of Howard D’Silva’s company this morning on the show, talking about quitting smoking obviously, with your hypnotherapy sessions at Three Counties Advanced Hypnotherapy Centres. Howard, you can help people do that – because a lot of people are talking about it at this time of year. |
| HOWARD: | That’s right. We just help people stop smoking in just one session. |
| And that’s all it takes – just one session? | |
| Yes, and we have a 95% success rate and we have been absolutely inundated with the phone calls today, so we’ll be speaking to Justine in a couple of weeks’ time, but if people want to know, they can call me on 255 899. | |
| TREVOR: | Is that a Milton Keynes number? |
| HOWARD: | Yes – 255 899, so really easy to remember – 255 899. Or they can have a look on our website, which is a bit more complicated, which is www.3cahc.co.uk. |
| ROS: | If you missed any of that, just get in touch with us and we’ll pass you all of Howard’s numbers and details etc. It’s also good to point out that, because I’ve been quizzing you since you got here Howard, bless you, that you also deal with weight loss as well, and you’ve got some great letters and stuff from people who have actually lost weight. One lady that was very large and said that she always stayed away from the camera – you’ve helped her change her mind on the way she’s eating and her eating patterns. |
| TREVOR: | And her feet have got smaller! |
| ROS: | Yes! |
| HOWARD: | It’s amazing, and one of the most important things for me - |
| TREVOR: | What a great thing to put on your CV, that you can reduce people’s shoe size! |
| HOWARD: | Well one of the things that’s really reassuring for me, is she can now look in the mirror and feel proud of herself. |
| ROS: | You felt that when you read her thank you letter, you showed me her thank you letter and that was absolutely brilliant. I know you said earlier on, that you love what you do, and I suppose receiving some of those feedbacks and letters that we’ve read today, no wonder! |
| HOWARD: | It just makes my day. |
| ROS: | I bet it does. |
| TREVOR: | With hypnotherapy, people obviously have that image of Paul McKenna-type person – of “I’m going to be clucking like a chicken when I come out and see you”. |
| HOWARD: | Yes, absolutely – we do charge more for that sort of stuff! No, it’s not like that. I can’t make people do what they don’t want to do, so, if someone actually wants to lose weight or stop smoking the easy way – then they have to want to stop smoking at some level. I know that can be difficult for a lot of smokers, but once they understand how their smoking works, we just make it very easy for them to stop. |
| TREVOR: | All right – thanks a lot, Howard for coming in this morning. |
| HOWARD: | Thanks very much, it’s been great. |
| TREVOR: | And we’re going to talk to Justine in a couple of weeks’ time, a few weeks’ time – we’re going to get her back in the studio and see… |
| ROS: | …how well she’s doing! |
| CUEBALL: | Put loads of fags in front of her – all different types! |
| ROS: | No! |
| CUEBALL: | Yes Yes Yes! |
| TREVOR: | How cruel! All right, thanks Howard for coming in this morning, we’ll talk to Justine off-air… |
|
|
|
| TREVOR: | …Please welcome into the studio this morning Justine and Howard. |
| HOWARD: | Morning. |
| TREVOR: | Morning. Now you may remember a few weeks ago - |
| ROS: | Three weeks, I think it was. |
| TREVOR: | Was it three weeks ago, Howard? |
| HOWARD: | I think it was something like that, yes. |
| TREVOR: | Yes, three weeks ago that Howard came in from Three Counties Advanced Hypnotherapy and up for grabs was a session to be hypnotised and to get rid of that smoking habit. Justine phoned in and said “yes, I really, really want to give up smoking and I want Howard to cure me of my smoking habit”. Here we are, three weeks later, and Justine is in the studio. Now Justine, Howard’s written a little bit about you here, which I feel compelled to read out, so: “The winner of the stop smoking session is the lovely Justine…” |
| ROS: | That answers my question immediately then – have you stopped? Obviously “winning”. |
| TREVOR: | A proud mother of two, who’s going to get married in August – are you going to get married in August? |
| JUSTINE: | I am. |
| TREVOR: | Where are you going to get married? |
| JUSTINE: | Where? Bletchley Registry Office. |
| TREVOR: | Nice one. And who’s the lucky man? |
| JUSTINE: | XXXXXXXX – Fantastic chap. |
| TREVOR: | Of course, and he’s listening this morning, no doubt? |
| JUSTINE: | Probably! |
| TREVOR: | Have you got your honeymoon sorted out yet? |
| JUSTINE: | No. |
| TREVOR: | Where do you want to go? |
| JUSTINE: | Anywhere with him! |
| TREVOR: | So you’re getting married in August and so, a few weeks ago you phoned in, and you were a smoker. Why did you call up in the first place? Why did you phone? |
| JUSTINE: | I just wanted to give up smoking, I think everyone who is a smoker has always wanted to give up at some time. I just hated it – I hated the restrictions it put on me. |
| ROS: | Have you been smoking since you were seventeen? |
| JUSTINE: | Sixteen. |
| ROS: | Sixteen and you are now what, thirty? |
| JUSTINE: | Thirty-three. |
| TREVOR: | And how many cigarettes a day were you smoking? |
| JUSTINE: | Up to twenty, sometimes more if I went out. |
| CUEBALL: | When you’re in the car with someone, and you’re late to get somewhere and they go “oh hang on, I just got to stop and get some fags” – it makes you want to kill them! |
| JUSTINE: | Yes. |
| ROS: | Let’s not lay into her though! |
| JUSTINE: | I don’t care! |
| CUEBALL: | No, well Justine’s a non-smoker, we’re agreeing. |
| TREVOR: | How many times have you tried to give up smoking, before you went to Three Counties and Howard, how many times did you try to stop smoking, and what methods did you try? |
| JUSTINE: | The good old one, willpower – failed miserably, and patches – didn’t get on with those at all. |
| TREVOR: | And you didn’t get on with them at all? |
| ROS: | Chewing gum, Chinese – that stuff, nicotine chewing gum? |
| TREVOR: | And it was obviously extremely hard in the past to stop? |
| JUSTINE: | It was impossible. |
| TREVOR: | There we go. So, what’s the longest you’ve ever gone without a cigarette? |
| JUSTINE: | We worked it out as ten hours! A flight to Orlando! |
| ROS: | Is that because you couldn’t smoke on the flight? |
| JUSTINE: | Yes! And even when I had my child, two hours after giving birth I went down to have a cigarette – nearly blew myself up on the gas and air! |
| HOWARD: | Not in between breaths! |
| TREVOR: | So, what was the first trigger moment, because there must be a trigger moments, like when you step outside after a day’s work, or when you wake up or whatever? |
| JUSTINE: | First thing, you wake up first thing in the morning, switch the kettle on – straight to the back door for a cigarette. I’d have to have at least two or three before I could function properly in the morning. |
| TREVOR: | So what happened the day after then? So you got up, went downstairs, switched the kettle on? |
| JUSTINE: | That was the easiest time! I was saying to Howard – I thought the hardest time would be eating, drinking and first thing in the morning and they were absolutely the easiest times! |
| TREVOR: | Wow! |
| ROS: | So we know that obviously Howard hypnotised you into not smoking. Now I’ve got this old kind of watch-swinging, “look into my eyes, look into my eyes”, back in the room type thing. So what exactly happened? What was the session like? What did you go through? |
| JUSTINE: | The consultation was fantastic. We had a good chat. Any myths that we had about smoking were just totally smashed. There was plenty of opportunity for you to say “Howard, I really don’t want to do this” and there would be no problem whatsoever. We had a good consultation, a good chat, we discussed the habits and everything – and that lasted a good hour. Then he just said, “Sit on the chair”, and I just sat on the chair, and he just talked to me. I was just laying there, and I can remember thinking “I am so tired, I just want to go to sleep”, and you know when you’re just about to fall asleep and your body… |
| HOWARD: | That’s what happens when people listen to me! |
| JUSTINE: | At one stage I did think “will you shut up I want to go to sleep” – sorry! |
| HOWARD: | What just now? |
| JUSTINE: | Yes! |
| ROS: | So all the things that he was then saying to you, what? |
| JUSTINE: | I can’t remember now what he said, but I can remember at the time thinking, “I’m not hypnotised because I can hear everything you’re saying” and I remember thinking, “my body feels so weightless, and if I just move my arm, then I’ll let Howard know I’m not hypnotised”. But I couldn’t move my arm, or I didn’t want to. |
| TREVOR: | It’s a funny old feeling isn’t it? |
| JUSTINE: | It’s a fantastic feeling! It’s in between that stage where you’re just about to go into a deep sleep at night, and you’re body’s weightless. |
| TREVOR: | So you had the session, and this is going back now – 17th January you had the session. |
| JUSTINE: | Yes – sixteen days now. |
| TREVOR: | And how are you feeling? |
| JUSTINE: | Fantastic! |
| ROS: | How many cigarettes have you smoked since? |
| JUSTINE: | None. |
| ROS: | None! |
| JUSTINE: | I actually, I did say to Howard I actually lit two up. |
| ROS: | Really?! |
| JUSTINE: | But I felt so ill – I nearly threw up! |
| TREVOR: | It’s fair to say that, you’ve said this before on the show when you came in, it’s not for everybody is it? They’ve got to want to do it. |
| HOWARD: | Yes, I think people have really need to want to stop smoking, because if people have got this idea that they enjoy smoking, then there’s nothing I can do for them. But what happens is, in that hour that we do our consultation, we just really ask them about what they actually enjoy, and the silence can be deafening. |
| TREVOR: | So anybody listening right now thinking, “OK I’m a smoker and, like Justine, I’d really like to give up” – it really is that simple if they have that power to say “right – pick up the phone” even, and that’s it. |
| HOWARD: | The whole idea of, the reason we did this is really to make it really just as easy to stop as we possibly can. Because I used to be a smoker, I understand how it controls you and how difficult it can be to stop and this is just so easy as Justine’s proven. |
| JUSTINE: | Yes, it is. |
| ROS: | So Justine, how many times have you used the emergency number – Howard’s mobile emergency number? |
| JUSTINE: | I haven’t. |
| ROS: | Really? |
| JUSTINE: | Howard phoned me about three days afterwards and said, “How are you doing?” I said, “Yes, fine”. He said, “You haven’t called!” I said, “I didn’t need to!” |
| TREVOR: | Wow! Well look, congratulations, well done to you, and thanks Howard for helping Justine out. |
| HOWARD: | Thank you very much. |
| TREVOR: | Do you feel like he’s changed you life – almost? |
| JUSTINE: | Yes, definitely – I feel fantastic. I’ve got money now! |
| TREVOR: | And that’s another great benefit isn’t it? |
| JUSTINE: | Yes. |
| TREVOR: | All right, well done. Thanks a lot Howard. If you want more details, then give us a buzz in the studio on 26 10 33 or you can go to Howard’s website which is www.3cahc.co.uk or his number in town is 255 899, and Howard, thank you very much. |
| HOWARD: | Thanks very much guys, cheers. |
